COLTON - Eighth-12th grade students at Colton-Pierrepont Central School recently attended a comprehensive sexual harassment training.

The goal was to educate youth on the definition and impact of sexual harassment. The students first learned the basics of sexual harassment in the schools by a local professional trainer, Tedra Cobb.

They then broke the group up by gender and implemented an empowerment program for each group led by adults of that gender. Teachers and staff of the same gender also attended the sessions.

Ms. Cobb shifted the conversation with the girls and discussed topics surrounding the pressures and responsibilities of being a young woman. The boys were educated by a panel of local professional men regarding the pressures and responsibilities of being a young man. Raychon Gillis and Duncan Brown from the SUNY Potsdam Men’s Group led a panel discussion including Michael DeRosie, a recently retired superintendent at Alcoa, and NYS Trooper Rob Larrabee.
