SLC sftoball gains North Division sweep over N-N; Massena outscores Gouverneur


St. Lawrence Central surged to a sweep at home over North Division rival Norwood-Norfolk while Massena Central came away from Gouverneur with a 6-3 Central Division win in NAC varsity softball matchups on Thursday.

SLC 13, 14, N-N 5-1: In Brasher Falls, the Lady Larries strung together a pair of big innings in both games to gain their sweep over the Lady Flyers.

Sam Richards went the distance for the win in the opening game, striking out seven and walking five while scattering six hits as the Lady Larries turned a 3-2 deficit after two innings into an 11-3 lead with five runs in the bottom of the third and four in the fourth. Katie Ames had six strikeouts and walked four in taking the loss.

Shakiah Robertson went 2-4 with three RBI and a run scored to lead a potent SLC offense, setting the tone of the win with a key two-out, two-run single in the first inning. Gabby Wilson singled and drove in three runs as well. Also contributing were; Noel Rufa (1-3, rs), Jane Judware (1-2, 2rs), Lindsey Thayer (1-4, 2rs), Haley Agens (2-3) and Richards (1-3, 2RBI).

Courtney Harvey had two of the six N-N hits. Jess Harvey, Jorji LaBarge, Megan Stevenson and Ames all went 1-3 with a run scored while Alycia Short came around to score the other run for the Lady Flyers.

Thayer tossed a three-hitter to anchor the nightcap win, striking out 11 and walking just one. Ames went four innings in taking the loss before Gabby Cole (3K) came on to provide two innings of scorelss relief.

Rufa led the winning offense going 4-4 with four runs scored. Brandi Thomas was 3-5 with three runs scored while Agans, who went 3-4 with five RBI, connected for a three-run triple that keyed the first of two straight five-run surges by the Lady Larries in the third inning. Shelby Hollenbeck (2rs) and Caitlin Grow connected for two hits apiece. Judware was 1-3 with an RBI while Kersten Irwin singled and scored a run.

Jess Harvey doubled and scored the lone N-N run in front of a single by Karlea Weaver in the fourth inning while Mickey Fregoe had the other Lady Flyer hit.

Now 8-1 overall and 3-1 in the North, the Lady Larries are slated to play a pair of non-league games against Elmira Heights and Copenhagen in Mudville on Saturday before returning to their NAC schedule on Monday with an interdivisional game against Franklin Academy. N-N (2-5, 0-5) returns to action on Saturday at home against FA starting at 2:45 p.m.

Massena 6, Gouverneur 3: A two-run sixth inning gave the Raiders a 5-3 lead as Sierra Streeter struckout 12 batters and walked two while giving up seven hits. Bailey Dillabough supplied a double and two singles to pace the Raiders. Chelsea Streeter smacked a triple and a double while Kharlene Garrow chipped in three singles. Mackenzie Young, Taylor Peets and Jessielee Cole each singled once.

Nictoria Bates supplied a double and a single for Gouverneur. Rachael Prashaw, Jaelyn Gotham, Courtney Aldridge, Rachel Hooley, and Paige Bango each singled. Gotham took the loss striking out six and walking just two batters.

In NAC interdivisional games on Thursday, Chateaugay handled Lisbon 12-1 and Harrisville outlasted Edwards-Knox 12-11.
