MASSENA - The Massena Central baseball team closed out a busy stretch of games with a double-header sweep at home over NAC Central Division rival Gouverneur on Thursday.
The Raiders, who played seven games in six days, took the early lead in the opening game then scored the final three runs in posting a 5-2 decision before going on to rally from an early deficit to take the nightcap 10-2.
In the first game, Josh Miller went the first four innings for the win, striking out five and walking three before Joey LaBelle came on to earn the save with two innings of scoreless relief where he recorded two strikeouts and one walk. The Raider duo limited the Wildcats to just three hits.
Mike Lucidi went the distance in taking the loss.
Avery Barney and LaBelle both connected for a pair of hits in the winning effort while Josh Miller singled and drove in a run. Barney also logged an RBI.
Matthew Ashley had two hits, including a double, to highlight the Gouverneur offense.
In the nightcap, the Wildcats pushed across two runs in the bottom of the first inning before the Raiders stormed back with three in the second and four in the fourth to turn the game in their favor.
David Phillips pitched the complete-game victory, striking out six and walking three while scattering five hits. Jacob VanOrnum took the loss.
Offensively for the Raiders, Phillips (1RBI) singled and doubled along with Jake Ward. Barney (1RBI) and Troy Myers connected for two singles each while Cullen Baines connected for an RBI-double.
VanOrnum had an RBI-single for the Wildcats (1-4, 0-3).
The Raiders (7-1, 3-0) are slated to play at Norwood-Norfolk on Monday at 4:30 p.m
In NAC interdivisional games on Thursday, Chateaugay downed Lisbon 8-2 and Harrisville beat Edwards-Knox while Morristown swept a non-league twinbill over LaFargeville.
