Canton Downs OFA In Lacrosse

Visiting Canton made an impressive show of quick-striking offensive execution around the goal defeating OFA 14-2 on Thursday afternoon at Kennedy School.

The Golden Bears climbed to 8-1 in the NAC and 8-2 overall in resurgent season under former Heuvelton Central Coach Tim Youngs who credited the Bears commitment to the sport as they key to this season where they have lost only to undefeated Salmon River in Northern Conference play.

“These guys have put in a lot of time in the offseason. We played in big tournaments in Oswego, Syracuse and Sackets Harbor this summer and we play to go to Rochester and possibly Maryand this year.

“These guys are extremely unselfish and the they know the game.”

Jesse Gilbert’s four goals and two goals from Mike Matthews, Cody Moore and Peyton VanBibber led a very balanced Canton offense which put together a 7-0 run in the third quarter.

“Canton is extremely skilled and moves the ball around the net very well. We hung with them pretty well in the first quarter but we were really shorthanded missing several guys for different reasons,” said Coach Matt Morley.

“They just wore our defense out; Alexander Hewko and Drew Hilborne worked extremely hard. We just couldn’t sustain our offensive possessions to give the defense a break.”

Jake Garrison scored one goal for OFA (2-7, 3-8) and set up Trey Lawrence for the other marker while Spencer Lawrence made several point blank stops in an 11-save effort.

Tanner Sanderson (1 goal, 2 assists), Jack Elberty (1 goal, 1 assist), Guage Emerson (1 goal), Eb Foote (1 assist) and Ryan Caldwell (1 assist) rounded out Canton’s offensive suppport for the goaltending trio of Jeff Hammond, Nate Gibson and Alex Sosbee who combined for five saves.

Modified Boys Win: The OFA Boys Modified lacrosse team beat Canton 6-2 Wednesday led by Mark Morrow with 2 goals and an assist. Nate Molinari scored twice, Austin Putman had a goal and an assist, while Jacob Awan scored and Jared Berg dished a solo assist. Hayden Woods and Burke Comeau anchored a solid defensive effort to limit Canton’s chances. Will Pearson finished with 5 saves.

Potsdam 11, Massena 7: The visiting Sandstoners churned out five unanswered goals in the first quarter. Cody Compeau (1 assist) and Nate Carey anchored the Potsdam (6-4, 5-3) offense with three goals apiece. Rhoades Tarbell paced the Raider (5-4, 4-4) attack with four goals and one assist.

Salmon River 24 - Saranac Lake 2: Austin Cavender 3g 3a, Seth Oakes 3g 2a, Dalston Day 2g 3a, Kyle Lewis 1g 3a, Ky Tarbell 1g 3a, Lakota Square 3g and Lawrence Jock 3g led the undefeated Shamrocks.

SLC 16 - Colton-Pierrepont 1 : Dalton Lottie (6 goals, 2 assists) and Nate Cole (2 goals, 4 assists) anchored the winning offense. Marshall Burninghausen netted three goals.

and two assists. Styles Arquiett struck for a pair of goals. Lukas Arquiett (2 assists), Cody Burns and Brody Simmons netted one goal each while Blake Baldwin drew a pair of assists. —— Jake Angelberger notched the lone goal for the Colts.
