CANTON A Massena man has taken on the position of Zone 2 commander after serving in Massena and Ray Brook.
Capt. Michael Girard, an Ogdensburg native, is replacing David E. Chauvin, also a Massena resident.
I have complete faith in him, Troop B Commander Maj. Richard Smith said. He brings a wealth of experience.
Capt. Girard has also worked through conversations with high federal law enforcement officials, Maj. Smith said.
I have complete confidence in his leadership and his work ethic, he said.
Capt. Girard will be in charge of traffic enforcement and sharing services. He will also be the commanding of all major crimes in St. Lawrence County, he said.
Capt. Chauvins retirement becomes official May 30.
Hes done a wonderful job, Maj. Smith said. He has had a significant impact.
Capt. Chauvin served the state police for 31 years and over 20 years as a zone commander.
