CANTON — An Ogdensburg native has taken on the state police position of Zone 2 Commander after working in Massena and Ray Brook.

Capt. Michael Girard is replacing Capt. David E. Chauvin.

Capt. Girard will be in charge of traffic enforcement and sharing services.

He will also be the commanding officer of all major crimes in St. Lawrence County, Maj. Smith said.

Capt. Chauvin’s retirement becomes official May 30; he served the state police for 31 years and over 20 years as a zone commander.
