BURN LAW VIOLATION - Village police charged Steven F. Rushlow Jr., 30, of 49 Water St., Massena, with violating the state burn ban at 8 p.m. Sunday after Massena Fire responded to a call on his property.

PETIT LARCENY - MASSENA - Village police charged Michael J. Bero, 52, of 12 Grassmere Terrace, Massena, with petit larceny at 6:10 p.m. Sunday at Price Chopper. Bero allegedly shoplifted women’s hair dye, valued at $10, and grabbed a handful of olives from the salad bar before leaving Price Chopper. Store officials said they replaced the entire container of olives following the incident. Bero was released on an appearance ticket.

BENCH WARRANT - MASSENA - Village police picked up Zachary D. McGregor, 23, of 259 County Route 43, Lot 1, Massena, on a bench warrant signed Feb. 2 by Massena Village Justice Eric J. Gustafson at 10:49 a.m. Sunday at the police station. The warrant alleged McGregor had failed to appear as directed for a scheduled court appearance. He was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald P.Sharlow and released on his own recognizance.

BENCH WARRANT - MASSENA - Village police picked up Stephen W. Smutz, 18, of 193 O’Neil Road, Massena, on a bench warrant at 8:20 a.m. Sunday at his residence. The warrant alleged Smutz had violated the conditions of a probationary sentence stemming from a youthful offender adjudication. Since being placed on a probationary sentence, Smutz reportedly tested positive for marijuana use, failed to appear as dicted for several of his weekly appointments with his probation officer and was unsuccessfully discharged from a chemical dependency program for missing appointments. He was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond.

PROPERTY DAMAGE ACCIDENT - MASSENA - Village police ticketed both drivers following a two-vehicle property damage accident at 11:37 a.m. Sunday on Pine Street. Deborah A. Fenton, 51, of Pine Street, Massena, was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way at an intersection, and Michelle D. Binette, 17, of East Cornwall, Ont., was ticketed for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

PETIT LARCENY - MASSENA - A 14-year-old male from Massena and a 14-year-old male from Winthrop were each charged with petit larceny after an alleged shoplifting incident at 5:05 p.m. Saturday at Price Chopper. The two juveniles reportedly shoplifted cheese curd. The two teens were referred to the probation department for a possible petition to St. Lawrence County Family Court.
