CANTON - A Potsdam woman is dead following a two-vehicle accident shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday on Route 11 in the town of Canton.
St. Lawrence County Sheriffs Department investigators said Eleanor E. Uffer, 74, of 11 State St., Potsdam, was southwestbound on Route 11 at 3:45 p.m. Sunay when her 2009 Subaru drifted into the northbound lane into the path of a 2012 Ford Focus being operated by Zachary T. Benson, 20, of 5`3 D Sleepy Hollow Road, Gouverneur. Ms. Uffer was transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by Dr. Ricardo Turrin. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.
Deputies said Mr. Benson and a passenger in his vehicle, Dominique M. Huckins, 25, also of 513 D Sleeph Hollow Road, Gouverneur, were transported to Claxton Hepburn Hospital, Ogdensburg, treated for mnor injuries and released. Mr.
Benson was treated for minor injuries to his arm and chest, and Ms. Huckins suffered chest and abdomen pain, according to deputies.
Police said their investigation is continuing, but they said the preliminary review of the accident led them to believe no criminal charges would be filed.
