POTSDAM - The Potsdam Central golf team moved one win ahead of Massena atop the NAC standings after posting a 214-239 decision over the previously unbeaten Raiders at the Potsdam Town and Country Club on Monday.
Playing in the second pairing, Ben Stone shot a medalist round of 39 on the par 36 back nine, closing with a birdie on the par 4, 18th. Mike Chambers carded a 42 in the top spot for the Sandstoners followed by Konnor Bigwarfe who played in the sixth position. Dustin LaValley and Dan Cruikshank added 45s toward the Potsdam total while Dan Stone shot a non-scoring 51.
For the Raiders, Francis Hunter had the low round of 43 in the first pairing. Jayden Wood finished with a 46 that included a birdie on the 15th hole. Brenden Dobbins contributed a 48 while Tyler Nevill and Tyler Sunday both shot 51s. Tyler Bradford had a non-scoring 61.
Now 4-1, the Sandstoners draw a bye on Wednesday before getting set to host Franklin Academy on Friday. Massena slipped to 3-1 with the loss and will look to regroup on Wednesday at home against Gouverneur.
OFA downed visiting FA 213-241 at the St. Lawrence State Park Course in the other NAC meet staged on Monday.
Massena had improved to 3-0 last Friday via a 219-234 decision at home over FA. Francis and Wood both posted 40s top anchor the win. Tyler Nevill and Brenden Dobbins each finished at 45 while Tyler Bradford and Kendrick Swamp both shot 49s.
Evan Hanna paced FA with a 43 followed by Davis Sprague with a 47. Dylan Fleury, Elliot Vanier, Alexandra Sprague and Cole Depuy all carded 48s.
