POTSDAM – In collaboration with the St. Lawrence County Cancer Services Program, Canton-Potsdam Hospital will be providing free breast cancer screenings from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
All women between the ages of 40-64 with no health insurance are eligible and encouraged to participate. Women should call 315-386-2325 to schedule an appointment for this Saturday.
It cannot be said enough that early detection is the key to survival. In the event a woman cannot afford health insurance, she should not be excluded from the same potentially life-saving screenings that are available to insured women, according to Joyce Foster, mammography coordinator at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Thanks, in part, to the collaboration with St. Lawrence County Cancer Services Program, the hospital is able to offer these free screenings twice a year, Ms. Foster added.
Upon arriving on Saturday, women are asked to sign-in at registration then proceed to the imaging check-in window. A clinical breast exam will be performed by a nurse practitioner, who will request a mammogram and/or breast ultrasound that same day, if necessary. Results will be provided to the nurse practitioner and any other requested providers.
This is the second year Canton-Potsdam Hospital has offered free screenings in May and October. For more information or to schedule an appointment for this Saturday, individuals should call 315-386-2325.
