Massena track teams manage split at Gouverneur


GOUVERNEUR - The Massena Central track teams came away with an NAC Split against Gouverneur Central on Tuesday.


Andrew Brush captured the 100 in 11.8 seconds and the 200 in 24.6 seconds but the Massena boys dropped a 132.5-107.5 decision to the Wildcats. Michael Ortman paced the 800 to account for the lone other solo win produced by the Raiders, who scored their other two first-place efforts in the 400 and 1,600 relay. In the 400, Brushton combined with Taylor Brown, Robert Cameron and Cody Coggshell to post a time of 47.9 seconds. Cameron later teamed up with Carlos Menchon, Zach Fregoe and Kyle Nicholson to lead the 1,600 in 4:05.3.


The Lady Raiders produced nine wins en route to outscoring the Lady Wildcats 168-150.

Jacalyn Lamica paced the Lady Raiders with three wins, taking the 100 in 14.1 seconds, the 200 in 29.2 seconds and the high jump at 4’6” while Renee Deruchia swept the distance races, leading the 1,500 in 5:32.6 and the 3,000 in 11:53. Katie Bronchetti claimed triple jump honors at 28’10.5 inches to account for the other solo first produced by Massena which captured all three relay races as well. The quartet of Molli Richards, Sarah Tyo, Allison Whitton and Brooke Russell led the 3,200 relay in 12:04.5. Bronchetti and Lamica teamed up with Natalie Pesold and Cora Johnson to paced the 400 relay in 57.4 seconds. Tyo, Richards and Russell also combined with Olivia Douglas to capture the 1,600 relay in 4:49.2.


In an NAC meet hosted by Norwood-Norfolk on Monday, the host Flyers settled for a split against Canton with the boys pulling away to a 171-66 win and the girls falling 159-143.

In the boys meet, Josh Eng scored wins in the 800 (2:16.1), the 1,600 (5:04.6) and the 3,200 (11:24.8) as the Flyers notched wins in all but two events.

Connor Levison, Jacob Wellings and Cody Dominique posted two wins apiece with Levison leading the 110 hurdles in 18.7 seconds and the 400 hurdles in 1:05.4, Wellings sweeping long jump (17’3.5) and triple Jump (36’) honors and Dominique taking the 400 in 56.1 seconds and the 200 in 25.1 seconds. Also scoring solo firsts for the Flyers were Barrett Thomas in the shot put at 36’2” and Preston Mason in the discus at 131’11”.

The foursome of Nick King, Deven Grant, Travis Hall and Eng led the 3,200 relay in 9:31.5. Dominique, King and Wellings teamed up with Charlie White to win the 400 relay in 48.3 seconds. Levison, Hall, White and King paced the 1,600 in 3:53.8.

The girls meet saw Canton limit the Lady Flyers to just three wins. Kaycie Saucier captured the 1,500 in 5:35.4, Brooke Cota claim shot put honors at 30’10” and Brianna Hayes won the 200 in 29.4 seconds.

Another meeting on Tuesday saw Franklin Academy sweep OFA.
