Now under construction, the Sams Club at 1283 Arsenal St. will be adding a bakery and photo department and expanding its deli to offer takeout dinners upgrades that will add 19 positions.
Workers started the expansion project in March and plan to finish in September. In addition to offering new food products and services, the store will get a face lift to include new shelving units, renovated bathrooms and an exterior paint job. The work is being completed by general contractor RL Spencer of Manlius.
To be about 700 square feet, the bakery will offer a range of fresh products including artis an breads, pies and cakes for weddings, anniversaries and graduations, general manager John Unangst said. A wall at the deli will be knocked down to make space for the bakery, which is expected to open by mid-July.
The bakery will be staffed by 10 employees, including bakers, packers and cake decorators. Applications for the positions are being accepted.
Well be hiring by the end of this month, Mr. Unangst said.
Five other positions will be added at the deli, where storage units and coolers are being installed to offer pre-cooked meals, Mr. Unangst said. Those upgrades are slated to be done by the end of the month. A menu with 15 premade meals will be featured, including everything from lasagna and fettuccine alfredo to rotisserie chicken, fruits and salads.
Well have pre-made foods you can take home and put in the oven, taking out the preparation time, Mr. Unangst said.
Staffed by four employees, the digital photo center will be stationed at the front of the store by the member services desk. The lab will have a photo kiosk for customers to process photos on their own, while associates will create small to poster-sized digital prints. A timeline for opening the center hasnt been set yet.
Offerings were upgraded at the Sams Club to bring them into line with others in the area, Mr. Unangst said.
Customers can expect a better shopping experience here with more food at lower prices, he said.
