AGGRAVATED UNLICENSED OPERATION - MASSENA - Village police charged Christopher E. Hawn, 34, of 50 South Main St., Norwood, with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He was arraigned by Acting Massena Village Justice James M. Crandall and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $500 cash or $1,000 bond. Mr. Crandall pointed out Hawn had nine suspensions on his license - four for failure to pay fines and five for failure to appear in court for scheduled court appearances in courts from Louisville to Canton. The local justice said Hawn’s record of failed court appearances dictated the need for bail. “This way, one way or another, I know I will see you on May 23,” he said. Hawn had asked the court to be released on his own recognizance. He said the tickets that resulted in the suspensions dated back to a series of incidents between 2000 and 2003. “I haven’t been in any trouble since then, and I have been trying to take care of them. I’m doing the best I can,” he said. Mr. Crandall said he wasn’t convinced by Hawn’s argument. “You made your own bed. For nine years, you blew off the courts in Louisville, Norfolk and Potsdam,”

he said.
