Massena golfers regroup from loss; N-N improves to 9-0 with sweep


The Massena Central golf team bounced back from its first loss of the season to down Division I rival Gouverneur on Wednesday while Norwood-Norfolk improved to 9-0 atop the Division II standings by gaining a sweep over Madrid-Waddington and host Clifton-Fine.


In Star Lake Municipal Course, the Flyers outlasted Madrid-Waddington 3-2 and shutout C-F 5-0 while M-W gained a 4-1 decision over the host Eagles.

M-W scored its points against the Flyers in the first two matches where Alex Hammond beat Ryan Thomas 43-44 and Jeff Mott outshot Matt Myers 43-46. But the next three N-N golfers came through with wins as Nick Stewart edged Kyle Bent 45-46, Cole Davey downed Wade Lawrence 46-52 and Schuyler Labarge beat Josh Tiernan 49-52.

Anthony Mossow had a 49 playing exhibition for N-N while Zeb Zagrobelny posted a 62 for M-M.

Competing for C-F in the order of their matches were Matt Peabody (52), Tim Dowling (54), Anthony Dowling (57), Vincent Dowling (63), Chad Kerr (66) and Austin Malone (ex, 74).

The Flyers will look to continue their quest for the NAC regular season title on Friday when they travel to Gilbert Greens in Heuvelton for a tri-meet against Tupper Lake and the host Bulldogs.

Another NAC Division II meet on Wednesday saw Tupper Lake sweep Edwards-Knox 5-0.
