DWI - POTSDAM - A Harrisville woman was charged with driving while intoxicated after she crashed her vehicle into a tree while she was reportedly using her cell phone.
Village police charged Michelle E. Coloney, 24, of Harrisville with driving wile intoxicated and ticket her for texting while driving at 1:24 a.m. Thursday.
Police said they responded to a report of a vehicle into a telephone pole at Market Street and the May Road. They said their investigation determined a vehicle had come from May Road, continued through the intersection and struck the pedestrian crosswalk pole on Market Street.
Coloney reportedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.11 percent. A blood alcohol content of 0.08 of higher constitutes a driving while intoxicated charge in New York state. Police said she did not sustain any injuries.
Patrols were assisted at the accident scene by the Potsdam Fire Department for cleanup up debris and leaking fluids from the vehicle.
UNSAFE START - POTSDAM - Village police ticketed Jonathon P. Oakden-Graus, 22, of Chicago City, Minn., for making an unsafe start following a traffic stop at 1:26 p.m. Thursday on Clarkson Avenue. Police alleged Oakden-Grauss intentionally squealed his tires as he exited the Kinneys lot onto Clarkson Avenue. A traffic stop was initiated, and the Minnesota man reportedly told police he was just having some fun.
