Ogdensburg and the town of Massena are backing the town of Waddingtons efforts to be named Ultimate Fishing Town USA.
Last year, both towns and the city competed to win the World Fishing Networks contest, but Ogdensburg and Massena dropped out after garnering few votes. This year, city and Massena officials have chosen not to compete, but instead volunteered to support Waddington, which has close to 9,000 votes, in an effort to bring national recognition to the St. Lawrence River region.
Last year, Waddington placed second with 270,084 votes behind Roscoe in Sullivan County, which had 272,267 votes. While the competition ends at the months end, Waddington is already in the lead by almost 5,000 votes over second-place Olcott in Niagara County.
Votes may be cast on the fishing network website, www.worldfishingnetwork.com/uft/vote/waddington-ny.
