St. Lawrence, Rochester suspended by rain
CANTON Rain halted the first day of the Liberty League baseball tournament, forcing St. Lawrence University and Rochester to continue their game at 10:30 this morning.
Rochester held an 8-7 lead after five innings in the second game Thursday before the weather forced play to be halted until this morning. Rensselaer opened the double-elimination tournament with a 7-6 win over Skidmore College in the opening game.
SLU, the top seed in the event, fell behind 4-0 after a half inning Thursday but rallied with four runs in the bottom of the first to tie the game. Rochester built an 8-4 lead, but the Saints used a three-run home run from former Immaculate Heart Central star Brian Magovney in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game again.
The loser of the SLU/Rochester game will play Skidmore in an elimination game at about noon. The winner of the SLU/Rochester game will face Rensselaer in a winners bracket game at about 4 p.m. The tournament is scheduled to conclude Saturday.
