A former Franklin County resident convicted in March, 2011, of sexually abusing a girl for nearly a decade has lost his appeal Thursday, according to a state appellate court ruling.

Adam F. Griswold, 47, Shapleigh, Maine, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree sexual abuse and two counts of second-degree criminal act.

As part of the plea agreement, Griswold was sentenced to three consecutive five-year prison terms and waived his right to appeal.

Prosecutors accused Griswold of sexually abusing the girl in 2000 in the town of Moira when she was 8 years old. The abuse continued until 2009.

Griswold’s attorney, Theodore J. Stein, Woodstock, argued that prosecutors’ dates of the incidents were not specific enough.

Assistant District Attorney Glen MacNeill said the indictment did not list specific dates of the abuse because it occurred over a long period of time.

Mr. MacNeill said the courts have been consistent in this ruling when the victim is a young child.

“We feel the resolution is appropriate,” Mr. MacNeill said.

The state appellate court wrote that Griswold was given fair notice of the charges and sufficient time to put a defense together.
