Big first inning carries Heuvelton softball

DEKALB JUNCTION — A 10-run top of the first inning sent the Heuvelton softball team on the way to a 24-4 thrashing of Hermon-DeKalb in a Northern Athletic Conference West Division game on Friday.

Alexis Sawyer went 4-for-5 with three RBIs to lead the Bulldogs (9-2 overall, 7-1 division). Hannah Thornhill went 3-for-4, including a double, and drove in three runs for Heuvelton. Logan Tallman also went 3-for-4. Jen Couglar, Abbey Basford and Alexis Weidner each added two hits.

Weidner held the Demons (8-2, 5-1) to just three hits.

MORRISTOWN 13-12, HAMMOND 5-10

Mikayla Horton tripled, doubled and singled in each game of a West Division doubleheader as the Green Rockets (6-4, 6-2) swept Hammond in Morristown.

Jessica Gedes and Alison Smith each had two hits for Morristown in the second game.

Shady Clemens and Lori Morgan singled twice for Hammond (0-6, 0-5) in game one and Alyssa Crosby had four hits, including a home run, in game two for the Red Devils. Emily Bush and Taylor Bowman each had two hits in game two for Hammond.

LISBON 10, CLIFTON-FINE 5

A six-run sixth inning helped the Golden Knights defeat Clifton-Fine (1-7, 1-5) in a West Division game in Lisbon.

Emily Dishaw homered and doubled for the Golden Knights (2-7, 2-4).

PARISHVILLE-HOPKINTON 5-4, CHATEAUGAY 4-5

The Panthers (5-4, 5-2) built an early 5-0 lead in the opening game and wound up splitting an East Division doubleheader with Chateaugay in Parishville.

Marlee Wilson and Natalie Remington each had two hits in the opener for the Panthers, while Hannah Cook and Shelby Coleman had two hits in game one for Chateaugay (7-1, 5-1).

Holly Zeldenrust doubled in the bottom of the sixth inning of game two to drive in Cook with the game-winning run. Caitlin McGregor had two hits for the Panthers.

COLTON-PIERREPONT 9, MADRID-WADDINGTON 1

Brianna Beaulieu struck out eight for the Colts (11-1, 7-1) in an East Division win over Madrid-Waddington in South Colton.

Tiffany Generous had two hits and drove in two runs for the Colts in her first varsity start. Emily Uppstrom lined two hits for the Yellow Jackets (3-6, 2-4).

ST. REGIS FALLS 11-0, EDWARDS-KNOX 10-21

The Saints (1-8, 1-7) won their first game of the season in the opening game of an East Division doubleheader, scoring 11 runs. But Edwards-Knox (2-8, 1-5) shut out the Saints in the second contest in St. Regis Falls and pounded out 21 runs.

Kiana Stowell drove in the winning run in the opening game and had three hits. Chelsey Furnace, Whitney Reuss, Alexis Dimick Brittany Rondeau and Megan Lapage each had two hits in game one for the Saints.

Claire Davis went 4-for-4 for the Cougars in the opener. She had two hits in game two and Alexia Hawn added four hits.

NORWOOD-NORFOLK 4-9, SALMON RIVER 0-1

Alycia Short produced two hits in each game as the Flyers swept a North Division doubleheader from Salmon River (2-9, 0-6) in Norwood.

Jessica Harvey had two hits for the Flyers (5-7, 2-4) in the second game.

OFA 8, MASSENA 7

The Blue Devils (6-2, 4-0) scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Massena in a Central Division game in Ogdensburg.

Felicia Barr’s two-run double gave OFA the lead. Brittany Barr finished with two doubles and a triple and Mackenzie Cole singled three times and drove in two runs.

Kharlene Garrow hit a two-run homer and tripled for Massena (6-3, 2-1).

MALONE 32, POTSDAM 0

The Huskies scored 24 runs in the third inning, batting around three times, en route to a Central Division win over Potsdam (0-9, 0-4) in Malone.

Annie Sharlow and Katie Lavoie each produced four hits for Malone (7-4, 4-1). Emily Marshall and Morgan Fountain each had three hits and Katie Lamica had two hits, including a grand slam.
