St. Lawrence Central Sweeps Twinbill; H-D Splits NL


BRASHER FALLS - Lindsay Thayer struck out 23 batters in 11 innings as St. Lawrence Central m(5-1) swept a NAC North Softball doubleheader from Brushton-Moira (3-4) 12-1, 3-2 on Saturday.

In another doubleheader Hermon-DeKalb split with Watertown High in nonleague action.

SLC 12 - B-M 1: Lindsay Thayer struck out 10 pitching four socreless innings and Sara Richards closed out the win where Noelle Rufa led the offense by going 3/4 with three runs scored. Other key hitting efforts came from Thayer (single, RBI, 2 runs), Haleigh Agans (single, 2 RBIs, 2 runs), Shelby Hollenbeck (2-2 RBI), Bailey Stickney (2-2 2 RBIs).

Emily LaPage, Megan Follett and Emily O’Connor singled for B-M.

SLC 3 - B-M 2: Lindsay Thayer struck out 13 winning a complete duel over Emily O’Connor who struck out five in a three-hitter. Pinch-runner Morgan Villnave scored what proved to be the winning run in the top of the sixth inning by stealing second and hustling home after an overthrow.

Thayer pitched out of a bases-loaded threat in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win. Noelle Rufa doubled and scored on a single by Brandy Thomas in the fifth inning for SLC and Jane Judware singled.

Haylea Geary singled twice for B-M and Megan Dabeer (RBI), Sandra Martin, Meghan Follett and O’Connor all singled.

Watertown 12-6, Hermon-DeKalb 3-10: The Demons (9-3) won the nightcap 10-6 after falling 12-3 in the opener at DeKalb Junction against Watertown (3-10).

In game one, Megan Courtier went 4-5 with a double and an RBI to lead the Cyclones. Laney Woolf drove in three runs on a double. Kadie Weed had three hits. Ashley Merritt collected nine strikeouts in the win

Xann Gotham went 2-for-3 in the first game for Hermon-DeKalb.Clarisa Davis stroked a double while Brianna Sayer and Reis Bryant each singled.

In the second game, Clarisa Davis went 4-for-4 with a double and two home runs and drove in three runs and struckout five batters for the win for H-D. Jen Gotham smacked a triple and a single while Sayer contributed a double and a single. Xann Gotham and Sabrina Wood each singled twice.

Kadie Weed supplied two hits, including a double.
