Voters in the Colton-Pierrepont Central School District approved a $9.47 million budget by a vote of 205 to 77. The budget includes an $85,000 spending increase and calls for a tax levy increase of 2.03 percent.
Superintendent Joseph A. Kardash said he really appreciates the support from the community, which was evident long before the first vote was even cast.
It certainly shows support for the school from the community, he said. It was good to have 5 people running and to see that kind of interest in the school.
With 154 votes, voters elected Tracy Hoose and incumbent Shelli Prespare-Wilson, who received 137 votes. They were followed by incumbent Scott Baxter, Lisa Warner and Lena Mathie who received 121, 62 and 26 votes.
A library referendum appearing on the ballot also passed with 215 yes votes, compared to only 63 no votes. The proposition will increase the amount of funding Coltons Hepburn Library will receive from $15,000 to $20,000.
