The city clerks office will be getting a $12,848 makeover this summer in City Hall, 245 Washington St.
City work crews will complete the project that will include installing a new counter, flooring, window blinds, lighting and a lobby glass window.
The citys code enforcement office believes the city can avoid paying between $18,000 and $20,000 to remove asbestos in the flooring. Instead, new tiling will be placed over the existing flooring.
Mayor Jeffrey E. Graham proposed the project, saying the office was badly in need of an upgrade. Plans quickly began and the work should start in July. Funding will come out of the citys building maintenance budget, the mayor said.
As part of the project, the spot where wedding ceremonies are conducted will be moved into a more public area.
