Chase Mills woman locks herself in bathroom in unsuccessful attempt to avoid arrest

FORGED INSTRUMENT - CHASE MILLS - A 48-year-old Chase Mills woman was jailed Wednesday night on two criminal possession of a forged instrument counts after she allegedly attempted to prevent troopers from taking her into custody at her residence by locking herself in her bathroom.

Massena-based state police charged Jill M. McCabe of 668 Ruddy Road with two felony counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and resisting arrest.

McCabe allegedly cashed two checks for $398 each in July 2011 at Seaway Tire in Massena. The checks were reportedly written on the account of her estranged husband, John McCabe.

Troopers said Ms. McCabe locked herself in her bathroom at 9 p.m. Wednesday when they were attempting to take her into custody on the forged instrument count.

She was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $2,000 cash or $4,000 bond.

Court documents also indicate the sheriff’s department had a warrant for Ms. McCabe on six issuing a bad check counts.
