CANTON - A 26-year-old Hogansburg man is the third person to be charged in connection with an investigation into the theft of a Service Master van in the early hours of April 5 in Canton.
St. Lawrence County Sheriffs Department deputies said they concluded their investigation with the arrest of James Papineau Jr., 26, of 183 Racquette Point Road, Hogansburg.He was charged with third-degree grand larceny.
The trio reportedly stole the van from its business location on West Street and went for a joy ride before crashing on the Irish Settlement Road. The three men then fled the accident scene.
Papineau was arraigned in Pierrepont Town Court and following consultation with the St. Lawrence County District Attorneys Office was sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $10,000 cash.
