Salmon River boys lacrosse improves to 14-0 overall with win over Canton.

The Salmon River varsity boys lacrosse team moved one win away from an undefeated 2012 NAC regular season title with a convincing win over Canton while St. Lawrence Central held off Potsdam in Thursday afternoon matchups.

Salmon River 17, Canton 8: In Fort Covington, the Shamrocks ran out to a 7-2 lead by the end of the first quarter en route to netting their 14 straight win heading into a regular season final on the road Saturday morning against a winless Colton-Pierrepont contingent. Seth Oakes ravaged the Canton defense for six goals and an assist to lead the way offensively. Dalston Day (3 assists) and Kason Tarbell (2 assist) contributed two goals apiece while Ky Tarbell and Kyle Lewis both tallied a goal and two helpers. Also notching solo goals were Russ Oakes, Lakota Square, Adam Bomberry, Talon Hemlock and Kamm David.

Jesse Gilbert had three goals for the Bears. Eb Foote struck for a pair while Mike Mathews, Conner Henderson and Fred Rexford each netted singletons.

Kobi Johnson (6 saves) and Randy Peters (4 saves) split goaltending duties in the win as the Shamrocks improved to 13-0 atop the NAC standings. Jeff Hammond had 12 stops for Canton (12-4, 11-3), which finished second in the league.

SLC 8, Potsdam 7: At the Potsdam turf field, the visiting Larries generated four unanswered goals in the first quarter and went into the fourth leading 8-4 before turning back the Sandstoners. Nate Cole (2 assists) and Marshall Burninghausen anchored a balanced SLC offense with two goals apiece. Blake Baldwin (2 assists), Lukas Arquiett, Matt Rotach and Ian Lynch struck for the other goals.

Cody Compeau led Potsdam with three goals. Kyle Kingsley (1 assist), Drew Quenneville, Steve Lewis and Nate Carey each fashioned singletons.

Kody Kocsis handled 13 shots backstopping the win while Jason Cardinal posted 18 saves as the Sandstoners closed out the regular season at 8-8 overall and 7-7 in the NAC.

The Larries (9-6, 7-6) close out their regular season at home on Saturday against Saranac Lake starting at 10 a.m.

OFA 7, Saranac Lake 5: At the Kennedy School Field in Ogdensburg, the Blue Devils built a 4-2 halftime lead then outlasted the Red Storm in the second half to close out the season on a positive note.

Trey Lawrence (2 assists) and Andrew Roddy netted two goals each in the win. Cody McCormick and Jacob Garrison both finished with a goal and two assists while Spencer Lawrence posted 13 stops

Seth Pickering paced Saranac Lake with two goals while Mike Burpoe (8 saves) and James Merrill (3 saves) shared crease duties.
