Joseph St. Hilaire

Joseph St. Hilaire, 89, of Brushton, passed away Tuesday evening at Massena Memorial Hospital, where he had been in failing health.

Joe was born February 10, 1923 in Moira, N.Y., the son of the late Alfred & Emma (McGee) St. Hilaire. He was educated locally in Moira. He married Rosetta Gardner on November 27, 1948. She predeceased him on July 27, 1993. For over 25 years he worked as a laborer with the Kraft Plant in North Lawrence, retiring in 1985.

He is survived by his children, Anna (Carl) Crump, Sandra Phillips and Joseph (Judy) St. Hilaire, all of North Lawrence. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

He is predeceased by a son, George, who passed away May 14, 1994; a grandson, Adam Phillips; and three great-grandchildren. Also predeceasing Joseph are his siblings, William, Cleon, Henry, Leon, Helen Dunbar, Catherine Sweet, Caroline White, Agnus Leahy, Edna LaRock, Leonora Rabideau and Irene DeCarr.

Joseph enjoyed these simple things in life, hunting, playing Pedro and Garbage, watching WWF on TV and gardening. However, time spent with his grandchildren was time well treasured.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 12 p.m., at St. Lawrence Cemetery with the Rev. Christopher Looby presiding.

Arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.

Memorial contributions in Joseph’s honor may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Cerebral Palsy Association.
