FORT DRUM — A brigade from the 10th Mountain Division will not be aligned to a mission to Africa, according to an Army spokesman at the Pentagon.

The clarification comes after Gen. Ray Odierno, the Army chief of staff, said on Wednesday that a brigade from the division would be aligned with the Pentagon’s Africa Command, which would place them on standby to be deployed if necessary for training and military exercises.

On Thursday, the spokesman said that Gen. Odierno misspoke about the unit that would be aligned, and that the 10th Mountain Division would not be a part of that mission.

The spokesman could not confirm which units would be attached to the mission in Africa.
