C-P softball earns share of East title with win over Chateaugay

CHATEAUGAY - The Colton-Pierrepont ended the regular season on Tuesday by creating a three-way tie for the 2012 NAC East Division banner and clinching the top seed for the upcoming Section 10 Class D playoffs via a 3-0 win on the road over Chateaugay.

With the win, the Lady Colts improved to 10-2 in the division while dropping the host Lady Bulldogs to 10-2. Parishville-Hopkinton had already finished at 10-2 to earne the other share of the league title.

All three teams will be in action today as the Class D tournament gets underway with four quarterfinals round matchups. As the top seed, C-P will play host to Lisbon while Chateaugay welcomes Harrisville as the second seed. P-H landed the fourth seed and will host Hermon-DeKalb while third-seeded Heuvelton takes on Morristown. All four games are slated to start at 4:30 p.m.

Against Chateaugay on Tuesday, Brianna Beaulieu tossed an one-hitter for the Colts allowing a six inning single to losing pitcher Cortney Boyea. The senior allowed just one walk and struckout six batters, including the final two she faced to close out the win.

Boyea issued just two free passes while giving up six hits and fanning nine in suffering only her third loss of the season.

Eve Whalen opened up the Colton-Pierrepont fourth with a leadoff double and came around to score the eventual game-winning run on a Tara Hennessy single. The Colts added another run in the fifth as Kylie McKinley dropped down a bunt single, stole second and scored on Whalen’s third hit of the game, an RBI-single.

Beaulieu helped her own cause by scoring an insurance run in the sixth, leading off the frame with a double before coming around to score on a Chateaugay error.

Whalen finished with a 3—4 game with a double with Beaulieu collecting her two-bagger. Hennessy rounded out C-P hitting with her RBI single.
