Community Action Planning Council of Jefferson County officials hope the 10th annual Jo Oddi Memorial Just a Buck Fundraiser will raise $10,000.
Dawn M. Cole, agency deputy director, said all proceeds benefit the agencys food pantry, which provided more than 112,000 meals to north country households in 2011.
Last years campaign raised $9,543. Since CAPC is able to purchase food at reduced costs through the Food Bank of Central New York, the average cost of a well-balanced meal to the CAPC food pantry is $1.77, meaning the Just a Buck campaign provided 5,392 meals.
The annual campaign was named after founder and former CAPC board member Josephine Irene Oddi, who died in November 2008. Mrs. Cole said Mrs. Oddi always said it would take just one dollar to help make changes, so the name of the campaign will forever be the Just a Buck campaign.
The campaign recently kicked off and will continue through June. More than 1,400 people were sent a solicitation.
The campaign is well on its way to reaching that $10,000 goal, after Watertown Savings Bank stepped up as a corporate sponsor and donated $2,500.
To donate, drop cash or a check off to CAPC. Checks should be made payable to CAPC with Jo Oddi Memorial Just a Buck Fundraiser in the memo line. Checks also can be mailed to CAPC, 518 Davidson St., Watertown, N.Y. 13601.
