Marcy man gets prison for violating his probation

CANTON — A Marcy man was sentenced to prison for one to three years Tuesday by St. Lawrence County Judge Jerome J. Richards.

Jeffrey Weisbrod Jr., 26, admitted in court to violating his probation by not making meetings with his probation officer.

Mr. Weisbrod was convicted in 2010 of felony third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

In other court-related matters:

James L. Thompson, 79, Winthrop, pleaded guilty to felony second-degree vehicular assault and misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. Mr. Thompson is expected to be sentenced to five years of probation with a possibility of some jail time.

Mr. Thompson admitted he had a blood alcohol content of 0.23 percent when he struck a motorcyclist on Route 11C in the town of Stockholm in May 2010.

Elizabeth A. Klein, 62, Massena, pleaded guilty to felony driving while intoxicated. Ms. Klein said she was stopped in Norfolk in September and tested a BAC of 0.12 percent. Ms. Klein had a previous misdemeanor driving while intoxicated conviction from 2010 in Potsdam Village Court. She is expected to be sentenced to five years of probation with community service.

Darren M. Chaffee, 37, Massena, pleaded guilty to felony third-degree criminal possession of marijuana. Mr. Chaffee was sentenced to one year of interim probation. If successful, he may be eligible to plead down to a misdemeanor. He is accused of possessing more than one pound of marijuana in October in the town of Potsdam, according to police reports.
