Unemployment rates for April were released Tuesday by the state Department of Labor for St. Lawrence, Jefferson and Lewis counties.

Compared with April 2011, St. Lawrence County’s rate decreased from 10.3 percent to 10.1 percent. Jefferson County’s rate in creased from 10 percent to 10.1 percent, and Lewis County climbed from 9.9 percent to 10.2 percent.

Compared with March, St. Lawrence County’s unemployment rate decreased from 11 percent to 10.1 percent.

Statewide, the unemployment rate was 8.1 percent, up from 7.7 percent in April 2011.

but down from 8.7 percent in March.

The national rate decreased from to 7.7 percent, from 8.7 percent in April 2011 and 8.4 percent in March.
