CANTON - The 2012 Local Food Guide for St. Lawrence County is now available free from GardenShare.
This annual publication is the food lovers most complete source for finding the fabulous food raised and produced in St. Lawrence County. Farms, farm stands, farmers markets, u-picks, CSAs and stores that carry local products are all listed. A handy product index is also included to make it easy to find specific items.
St. Lawrence County is home to more than 50 direct market farmers selling fresh vegetables, apples, berries, cheese, milk, honey, maple products, meat, poultry, eggs and more.
GardenShares Local Food Guide also highlights a variety of programs that help make local food accessible and affordable to all, including the Farmers Market Nutrition Program which provides checks for seniors and families with young children to use on fresh fruits and vegetables.
The information is also available online, including locator maps, at GardenShare.org.
Copies are free, and are distributed by mail, inserted in area newspapers, and are available to pick up at many area locations such as Natures Storehouse and Coakley Ace Hardware in Canton, and the Potsdam Food Co-op.
