Waddington annual children’s fishing derby Saturday

WADDINGTON – Children across the north country will gather their lures and fishing poles for Waddington’s annual children’s fishing derby.

The Waddington Children’s annual Fishing Derby will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Waddington Beach.

The event is for children 15 and younger and is sponsored by Waddington Fish & Game Club.

The derby has become an annual tradition for the 103-year-old club.

“We had a really good turnout last year, and we’re hoping for a really good day for fishing,” club Treasurer Darlene A. Parmeter said Wednesday.

Children and parents are encouraged to bring a bucket to transport the fish for weigh-in. Trophies will be awarded for first through third-place in boys’ and girls’ categories.

“It’s a great way to spend a Sunday,” Mrs. Parmeter said. “And we’re hoping for good weather.”

Worms will be provided by the club. Free hot dogs and drinks also will be provided.

The rain date will be June 10.

For more information, contact Edward Parmeter, club president, at 388-4251.
