NORFOLK - Norwood-Norfolk Central School officials announced Thursday that there will be no school on Monday “to mourn the death and celebrate the life of Joanne Bigwarfe.”

Mrs. Bigwarfe, 43, who served for the past two years as the district’s elementary principal and was previously the district’s special education administrator, died Tuesday night after a battle with cancer.

A Middle School Academic Awards Night for students in grades seven and eight that was scheduled for Monday has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. June 12.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Bigwarfe is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam with the Rev. Monsignor Robert Aucoin celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Potsdam.

Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Garner Funeral Service in Potsdam.
