A man released from prison on parole March 2 was in Watertown police custody Thursday morning, charged with second-degree criminal trespass, a misdemeanor.

Edward L. Whitfield, 46, of 111 E. Lynde St., Apt. 1, was arrested at 12:10 a.m. in the 100 block of Franklin Street, just minutes after he allegedly entered the apartment of Thomas J. Knoll, 212 Franklin St., and remained without permission.

Mr. Whitfield had been in prison serving a term given him in December 2010 in Jefferson County Court for first-degree criminal contempt.
