REDWOOD While a state trooper investigated a domestic fight Tuesday night at the home of Betsey S. Blount, 24128 Shoulette Road, her former boyfriend set fire to the debris of his former horse barn, which he had just torn down, according to state police.
Firefighters from Redwood, Plessis and Alexandria Bay believed they had the blaze doused after about an hour, but a rekindle prompted an 11:58 p.m. recall of volunteers to the scene.
County fire officials and troopers were continuing their investigation Wednesday morning, but sources said there may be no cause to charge arson because the person who started the fire owned the barn, and there is no anticipated insurance claim.
A trooper dispatched to the property shortly after 8 p.m. and interviewed Ms. Blount regarding an argument she had just had with the former boyfriend, police said. During the interview, the trooper reported he saw the man, identified as Steven Ives, torching the pile of wood across the road. He had used heavy equipment to tear the barn down earlier in the day, police said.
Troopers were back at the scene Wednesday working with county fire investigators in a continuing investigation.
