Motorists accused of DWI


The following were charged with driving while intoxicated and related offenses:

n Melani B. Southwell, 38, of 7888 Route 12E, Three Mile Bay, was charged at 11 p.m. Wednesday by Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies on Route 12E in the town of Lyme.

She also was charged with crossing hazard markings, failure to keep right, consuming an alcoholic beverage in a vehicle, making an improper signal, driving without a license, operating an uninspected vehicle, having an unsafe tire and having inadequate exhaust.

Police said she had a breath test reading of 0.13 percent blood alcohol content. A BAC level of 0.08 percent or more is considered proof of intoxication under state law.

n Jeffrey O. Earle, 61, of 227 General Grant Circle, Sackets Harbor, also was charged by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department with felony aggravated unlicensed operation and unsafe backing after he was involved in a property-damage accident about 5:40 a.m. Wednesday on General Grant Circle.

Deputies said he refused to take a breath test. A felony is charged because his license is suspended for a pending DWI case, according to the sheriff’s office.

n Mary M. Bazinet, 17, of 535 Theresa St., Clayton, was arrested by Watertown police in the 1100 block of Arsenal Street at 3:25 a.m. Thursday, and also was cited with driving out of class after dark. She tested at 0.11 percent BAC, police said.

n John D. Cooke, 46, Calcium, was charged by state police after he was injured in an accident about 5 a.m. Thursday at County Route 54 and Brown Road in the town of Brownville. No other details were available.

n Hope M. Jenkins, 26, of 2045 Route 131, Massena, also was charged by state police about 1:15 a.m. Thursday with failure to keep right on County Route 53, town of Brasher. Troopers said she refused to take a breath test.

n Sara A. Calkins, 22, Potsdam, was charged by village police at 2:42 a.m. Wednesday on Main Street, Potsdam. She also was charged with failure to signal a turn. Her BAC was listed as 0.11 percent.

n Randall Brassard, 52, of 323 Deviller St., Ogdensburg, was charged by Ogdensburg police at 4:08 p.m. Wednesday on Ford Street, Ogdensburg. His BAC level was not available.
