AKWESANE - Members of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe will head to the polls to elect a new chief, sub-chief, and clerk for three-year terms.
The polls will be open from place 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the community building on state Route 37 in Akwesasne. All voters must be registered tribal members. Each voter must sign in and present their tribal enrollment card or valid photo identification prior to receiving their ballots for the election and must put their enrollment number next to their name, according to the tribal election ordinance.
Incumbent Chief ark Garrow is being challenged by Paul Thompson, Roger Thomas, Monica Jacobs and Gary Cole.
Sub-chief Stacy Skidders also has several challengers on the ballot. They include Eric Thompson, Pam Brown and Sharon Thompson.
Tribal Clerk Corleen Jackson-Jacco faces a challenge from Clarissa Terrance-Chatland and Cecil Garrow.
