AKWESASNE - Voters rejected an incumbent chief and subchief in their bids to retain their seats on the six-member St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Council.
Paul Thompson, outpolled incumbent Mark Garrow 265-213 in the five person race for chief. Gary Cole, 201: Monica Jacobs, 197; and Roger Thomas, 73; rounded out the field, according to Saturdays unofficial vote results.
Eric Thompson, 471 votes, rolled to victory in the sub-chief downing incumbent Stacy Skidders, 190, by more than a 2:1 margin. Sharon Thompson finished with 188 votes, and Pamela Brown, 115.
Tribal Clerk Corleen Jackson-Jacco, 490 voes, was the only incumbent to retain her seat. She turned back challenges from Clarissa Terrance Chatland, 318, and Cecil Garrow, 155.
