CANTON — The Social Action Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Church, 3 E. Main St., will present the Rachel Somers Grant Award at 10:30 a.m. June 10, to Margaret Weitzmann, Potsdam.

The annual award honors people who try to make the community more humane and progressive. The award is made in memory of Rachel Somers Grant, a teacher and activist who lived in Canton from 1977 until her death in 1990.

The award this year is especially significant because Ms. Weitzmann knew and worked with Ms. Grant.

Ms. Weitzmann has worked with a number of organizations, including Seedcorn, a nonprofit educational organization. She is also one of the most consistent demonstrators at the peace vigil every Saturday morning in front of the Potsdam Post Office.
