A memorial service for 93 year old Rev. W. Russell Clark will be held at the United Methodist Church in Potsdam, on July 1, 2012 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Bruce Lee-Clark officiating and Rev. James Barnes Co-officiating. A private family committal of his remains and those of his beloved wife June will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Gouverneur, NY. Russell died at his home in Potsdam on June 3, 2012. Arrangements are with the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam.
Survivors include Nancy Clark Specht (daughter) and Sebastian Franklin Specht, of West Henrietta, NY; B. J. Clark (son) and Rose Mary Clark of Colorado Springs, CO; Bruce C. Lee-Clark (son) and Mary Lee-Clark of Bennington, VT; Barbara Clark Riegel (daughter) and John C. Riegel of Delmar, NY; Phyllis Elaine Clark (daughter) and Michael S. Brown, of New York, NY; eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren; G. Esther Scott (sister) of Potsdam and Linda Mandigo (niece) and Don Mandigo, of Potsdam, NY. Russell was pre-deceased by his wife June C. Clark on Oct. 20, 2011, and two brothers Hubert and Manley Clark.
W. Russell Clark was born December 11, 1918 in Spragueville, NY the son of Wilbur Francis and Grace (Woodward) Clark. He received his AB degree from Colgate University, and his ThM degree from Boston University School of Theology. Russell was married to June Campbell on May 14, 1944 in Salem, MA. His father Rev. Wilbur F. Clark performed the wedding.
Russell served churches in Oriskany Falls and Deansboro, NY from 1944 to 1955; moving to the Pulaski United Methodist Church serving there from 1955 to 1965; then serving the Asbury United Methodist Church in Watertown from 1965 to 1975. From 1975 to 1983 Rev. Clark pastored the First United Methodist Church in Corning, NY. In 1983 Rev. and Mrs. Clark moved to Potsdam where Russell ministered to the congregation at the Potsdam United Methodist Church. Following his retirement in 1989 he continued to minister locally as Pastor Emeritus assisting local churches and their pastors in the area.
Memorials may be made in his honor to the Potsdam College Foundation as a gift to the Crane School of Music in Memory of Rev. W. Russell Clark, or to the Potsdam United Methodist Church.
