RAYMONDVILLE - The Norfolk Post 925 Rovers opened the 2012 American Legion Baseball 19-U season by dropping an 8-4 decision to the Clinton County Mariners on Wednesday at Memorial Field.
Ben Miller went the distance in taking the loss, striking out two and walking five as the Mariners took control with a five-run outburst in the top of the fifth.
Matt Ashley singled and scored a run in the losing cause. Troy Kovach came around to score twice. Jordan LaShomb drilled a double. Dakota Vallance had an RBI-single. Cody Smith scored a run and drove in another while Miller and Brandon Noble both drove in solo runs.
The Rovers are slated to return to action this weekend with three games in Saratoga starting Friday night against Granville. They take on host Saratoga on Saturday at 10 a.m. before closing out the three-game stretch against Tri-Country at 4 p.m.
