BRASHER FALLS — A ladder accident across the street from St. Lawrence Central School has landed one man in serious condition.

Rescue crews said William Compo, 82, Winthrop, and Carmen Jock, North Lawrence, were hanging a barn door about 10 feet off the ground when the door fell against the ladders at the Thomas Chambers property..

Terry Goodrich, president of Tri-Town Rescue, said the men fell about six feet to the ground. Mr. Jock hit his head on the pavement and is considered to be in serious condition. He was taken to Massena Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Goodrich said helicopters were called but unavailable because of a thunderstorm.

Mr. Compo was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle.
