Former Watertown Y employee admits stealing $36K from program

A former Watertown Y employee admitted Tuesday in Jefferson County Court that she stole more than $35,000 while working as a billing supervisor for an after-school program

Aimee A. Patton, 32, of 106 Superior St., Glen Park, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree grand larceny. She was accused in February of stealing $35,580 by submitting false entries to the Y that covered up the theft of the money from February 2009 to November 2009.

Ms. Patton handled billing for School-Age Child Care, a program for children from kindergarten through sixth grade held at 20 schools in Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties. The United Way of Northern New York and Jefferson County Youth Bureau provide financial assistance to parents and guardians who cannot afford program fees.

Ms. Patton, who was hired in June 2008, was terminated from her job after Y officials discovered she was stealing money.

She is expected to be sentenced Aug. 8 to five years’ probation and be ordered to pay full restitution.
