LaPage named Counselor of the Year

MASSENA - Nicole LaPage, a counselor at Massena Central High School, was awarded Counselor of the Year by the Northern Zone Association for Counselors and Development (NZACD).

“I am honored but also very humbled by this award. The counseling department here at Massena Central is full of some of the most skilled and talented professionals I have ever worked with. Their integrity and passion for helping not only students but our entire school community is an inspiration. I feel blessed to have them as my colleagues and feel that any one of them could have been a perfect choice to receive this distinction. I am lucky to be in such great company,” said Guidance Counselor Nicole LaPage.

Membership in NZACD is open for professional school and community counselors in St. Lawrence, Jefferson, Lewis and Franklin Counties.

Nominees for Counselor of the Year must have been professionally employed for at least five years and demonstrate outstanding service and dedication to students in the counseling profession.

“I feel strongly about this nomination for a number of reasons. The continuous professional leadership that I observe from Nicole is one of her greatest assets. Nicole always takes the initiative to pace and maximize the use of time to best service our students. She has a unique ability to adjust her counseling strategies and communication tactics to best fit her audience or students in need,” according to high school Principal Patrick Farrand.

Nicole was a counselor at Hudson Falls High School for five years and has been employed as a high school guidance counselor in Massena for the last eight years.

“This is a great honor and accomplishment for Nicole. It’s always great when an employee is recognized for the hard work they do for our students,” Superintendent Roger Clough II said.
