GOUVERNEUR Daphne Euphemia Filiatrault, age 85, of Gouverneur, passed away at home on June 16, 2012 under the loving care of her family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley after a courageous battle with cancer.
Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Monday from 1 – 3 and 6 – 8 p.m. Her funeral service will be on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Brian Drury officiating. Burial will follow in the Hailesboro Cemetery.
Daphne was born on August 12, 1926 in Russell, the oldest of fifteen children born to the late Karl D. and Goldie E. (Fuller) Brown. Daphne will always be remembered as a matriarch of her large family. She attended school in Gouverneur and worked in the Defense Plant in Ogdensburg as a machine operator during WWII. Daphne had also worked as a clerk for J.J. Newberrys and other retail stores.
She married Cyril Mike Filiatrault on June 17, 1945 in Antwerp. They were married by her great uncle, Rev. Myron VanOrnum. The couple worked side by side operating Crystal Springs Dairy Farm in Gouverneur for many years. Mike passed away on December 6, 2011. They had been married 66 years.
Mrs. Filiatrault enjoyed being with and taking care of her family. She would travel great distances to attend the important events in her childrens and grandchildrens lives. She loved to cook big meals for their gatherings, square dance, and even play the fiddle. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Her survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Terry Myers of Gouverneur, Beverly and Raymond Delli-Carpini of Norristown, PA, Brenda and David Broadbent of Massena; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bradley and Olla and Jerry and Sally, all of Canton. She is also survived by three sisters, Isabel Lewis, Bonnie Barker, Romona Rafter; five brothers, Delbert, David, Clifford, Robert and Frank Brown; sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Daphne is predeceased by her husband, Mike; three sisters, Thelma McCready, Wanda Jackson, and Rosemary Brown; and three brothers, Ronald, Weldon and Ernest Brown, Sr.
Donations made in memory of Daphne may go to the Childrens Miracle Network, Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley, or to Breast Cancer Research.
