CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - MASSENA - Village police charged James W. Pratt, 33, of 103 North Main St., Massena, with a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief and second-degree criminal trespass Saturday morning.
Pratt was charged with kicking the a door at the Perry Hayden residence at 69 Beach St. several times at 9 a.m. Saturday, breaking the door, and then entered the porch. Police said Pratt was allegedly looking for Eddie Slade, who he said had stolen $3,000 from him earlier that morning, but went to the wrong residence. Slade was later charged with fourth-degree grand larceny in connection with that incident.
Pratt was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and released under the supervision of the probation department. The court also signed a temporary no contact order of protection directing Pratt to stay away from 69 Beach St. and the Perry family.
Mr. Hayden told police he was at his residence Saturday morning when he heard someone pounding on his front door. It was a male, and he was yelling for Ed Slade. He was kicking the door, and he busted it in. I got to the door, and the door was broken and a part of it was laying on the floor of the porch, he noted in his statement to police.
He was saying he wanted Ed Slade, and I opened it and said he wasnt here. He said he came to my place because the car in the driveway was the car Ed Slade drives. I told him it was my daughters car, and Slade wasnt allowed here, he added in his statement.
Pratt then reportedly apologized to Mr. Hayden, said he would fix the door and left.
