ALEXANDRIA BAY The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed Sunday afternoon that search crews recovered a body from the St. Lawrence River near River Hospital, 19 Fuller St.
Jefferson County dispatchers received initial calls of a man crying out for help near the hospitals dock around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. He could not be located, they were told, and the man soon could not be heard anymore.
Alexandria Bay Police Chief James M. Marshall said searchers from several organizations and a helicopter responded to the scene Saturday night, and continued to search the water Sunday.
About 1 p.m. Sunday, divers recovered the body of a man in his early 20s, Chief Marshall said.
He said that the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and that the victims identity had yet to be confirmed with his next of kin.
Assisting Alexandria Bay police and Jefferson Countys Special Tactics and Rescue team at the scene were state police, park police, the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department and Alexandria Bay Fire Department.
