LOWVILLE — A longtime Lewis County Fair director was named the state’s fairperson of the year.

John W. Burr, Lowville, received the honor from the New York State Showpeoples’ Association at its annual banquet earlier this year.

Mr. Burr has served on the Lewis County Agricultural Society Board of Directors since 1974. He is the chairman of the fair’s entertainment committee and is the announcer for several events each year.

Mr. Burr was the 2011 president of the New York State Association of Agricultural Fairs, the third person from the Lewis County Agricultural Society to be elected to that position in its 125-year history.

The Lewis County Fair’s 2004 premium book was dedicated to him.

The 192nd county fair will be held July 17 to 21.
