CKON-FB booters rally past McDuff’s-CJ’s


HOGANSBURG - CKON-Fort’s Brickhouse rallied to claim a 4-2 decision over McDuff’s-CJ’s in North Country Men’s Summer Soccer action on Sunday.

Kenny Rushing scored first on a misplay from the left side of the 18 yard box at the 32 minute mark of the first half to give McDuff’s-CJ’s a 1-0 lead. CKON would answer right back at the 40 minute mark when Dan Gerow finished off a sliding play to tie the game from Rob Chambers.

The second half saw the visiting squad regain the lead on a run in from 10 yards out by Rob Smarz on a nice crossing pass from Mark Mishak.

CKON countered with the final three goals of the game for the win. Chris Lewis scored from six yards out on nice two-way pass play set up by Colby King Jacobs. Dan Gerow scored the eventual game-winner on a headball into an open net at the 72 minute mark on a long pass from Tim Cook. Cook finished the scoring with a 25-yard shot assisted by Dave Henrie in the closing minutes.

Ted Cook made eight saves backstopping the win. Dustin Andrus stopped 12 shots in the losing cause.

CKON FB moves to 2-2-1 on the season. McDuff’s moves to 5-2 on the year. CKON plays again on Wednesday against Potsdam’s Chip’s Place at the SUNY Potsdam Turf field while McDuff’s-CJ’s heads to Lisbon. Both games are slated to kick-off at 6:30 p.m.

In other Sunday matchups, Parishville outlasted Massena Vido Vidi Vici 1-0 and Hoot Ouwl of Canton blanked Potsdam County Seat Realty 3-0, Pepsi-The Place outscored Lisbon 5-2 and Ogdensburg AMP edged Frary Funeral Home 3-2.

Parishville 1, Vido Vidi Vici 0: Gavin Dominy connected for the only goal of the game to lift the Timberwolves to the win. Thor Merrill fielded the seven shots he faced in posting the shutout.

Hoot Owl 3, County Seat Realty 0: Travis Jordan netted a goal and set up another to spark the winning offense. Nate Butler and Shawn Spadacinni struck for the other goals while Eric Hayes and Jake Newman each logged solo assists. Newman also handled the three shots he faced working the crease for the shutout.

Pepsi-The Place 5, Murray Funeral Home 2: Pepsi-The Place (7-0) received three goals from Grant Prudhomme and single goals from Eric Whitcombe and Mike O’Neil. Bill Gemmill had eight saves for the winners.

Don Wilhelm and Kaleb Bertrand scored for Murray’s-The Place (2-3-2). Nolan Fletcher was the keeper making 14 saves.

Ogd. AMP 3, Frary’s Funeral 2: Dylan Reed and Ricky Stevenson figured in the scoring for Frary’s.
